Darrell Dexter, the premier of Nova Scotia has announced that his government has committed to a ban on the sale of bottled water, in all provincial facilities that have drinkable water.

How long do you believe it will take the rest of the provinces to follow suit?

Manitoba seems to be leading the way in Universities around Canada to completely ban the sale of bottled water. In March of 2009, the University of Winnipeg was the first University to completely ban bottled water.

As the world is continually becoming more environmentally conscious, Universities in Canada are keeping pace. This initiative is a great way to support municipal water and reduce the amount of plastic bottles filling up the Worlds landfills.

The University is going to be building new fountains and fill stations throughout campus while also putting up new signage to increase awareness of these stations. Brandon University and the student union want to challenge Universities across Canada and other institutions to follow suit and reclaim the tap to reduce bottled water.

This is the Second edition of Turn the Tap On – Friday. Turn the Tap on Friday is a great summary of changes, banning and some mind-blowing facts about the plastic water bottle industry, across Canada and around the world.

Halifax, Nova Scotia is the latest edition to municipalities banning the sale of plastic water bottles from their city hall. There is now a total of 69 municipalities across Canada who have banned the bottle, along with the 33 Universities across Canada who have bottled water free zones within their university.

The town of Bundanoon in Australia, as of September 25th, officially becomes bottled water free as of 10 a.m. The last bottled water will be pulled from all fridges and retailers today! They have installed four filtered water stations on the street that will be operate 24 hours a day.

Leeds University is the first university in the United Kingdom to Ban the sale of plastic water bottles. This ban sparked a fierce debate, but putting sustainability before profit was Leeds first priority.
